Dittofeed

Marketing

Self-hostable customer engagement platform for automated journeys, segments and broadcasts over email, SMS, push and webhooks.

Dittofeed is an open-source customer engagement platform for automated user journeys, segments, templates and one-off broadcasts across email, SMS, mobile push, webhooks, Slack and WhatsApp. It targets engineering-led teams and vertical SaaS products that want lifecycle and transactional messaging triggered from their own infrastructure or from the vendor's cloud. The MIT-licensed core self-hosts with Docker Compose and runs on Postgres and ClickHouse, with an optional Kafka buffer. The free self-hosted edition does not include multi-tenancy, multi-user OIDC authentication, white-labelling, embedded components or vendor support: those sit in a closed-source add-on image or under a quoted Enterprise licence.

Self-hosted (open source core)

Limits
No multi-tenancy, no multi-user OIDC authentication, no white-labelling, no embedded components and no vendor support; those require the closed-source add-on image or an Enterprise licence. The default authentication mode requires no authentication at all and the documentation says it is not recommended for production.
Notes
Licence read from the raw file on 2026-09-21: standard MIT text, 'Copyright (c) [2023] [Idea Market inc.]'. The split is real: the repository ships docker-compose.ee.yaml for the closed-source enterprise image (checked, HTTP 200) and the docs describe multi-tenancy as 'only available in dittofeed-ee, and Dittofeed cloud', so the free edition is the MIT core and the add-on is proprietary. Price: the pricing page FAQ answers 'How much does Dittofeed cost?' with 'Self-hosting is free! Our cloud offering starts at $75/month', so no amount is recorded for the self-hosted edition.

Enterprise Self-hosted License

Limits
Quote only. Adds multi-tenant advanced authentication, the full integrations library, white-labelling, embedded components and priority support. The enterprise image is closed source and needs a vendor-issued token for a private registry, and it currently has to run in multi-tenant mode.
Notes
The Enterprise tab of the pricing page lists 'Enterprise Self-hosted License' at 'Contact for price' — no amount is published, so the edition is recorded as QUOTE. The private-registry token and install steps are documented at docs.dittofeed.com/deployment/self-hosted/dittofeed-ee.

Pros & cons

Strengths

  • Self-hosting is free and the core is MIT licensed, with no published user cap on that edition Source
  • Journeys combine entry, message, wait-for, delay, exit and segment-split nodes for branching automation Source
  • Channels cover email, mobile push notifications, SMS, WhatsApp, Slack and webhooks Source

  • Templates can be written in HTML or MJML, or built in the low-code template editor Source
  • Cloud starts at $75 a month including hosting, marketing and transactional automation and the integrations library Source

Trade-offs

  • Multi-tenancy, separate workspace member accounts and OIDC multi-user auth exist only in dittofeed-ee and Dittofeed cloud Source
  • The enterprise add-on is closed source and installs from a private registry with a vendor-issued personal access token Source
  • Self-hosting still means running Postgres and ClickHouse, with an optional Kafka dependency for buffered writes Source

  • The default auth mode requires no authentication at all and the docs say it is not recommended for production use Source
  • AWS CloudFormation deployment is still documented as Coming Soon, so Docker Compose is the main documented path Source
